The best design to answer evaluation questions

The Children’s Anxiety Treatment Center will be evaluated using a pre- and post-test. There will be no control groups in this design since each participant’s data will be considered as an independent unit (Fink, 2014). For the evaluation of the Children’s Anxiety Treatment Center, parents will be requested for informed permission from their children. Random identifiers will be issued to participants in order to protect their personal information. A record of treatment attendance will be preserved and used with the help of this number.

The pros and cons of the selected design

Because of the directionality of the research, the pre-test and post-test study design allows for assessment of a dependent variable (knowledge or attitude) before and after intervention with an independent variable. Because of the testing threat, the pretest-posttest control group design has just one disadvantage over the posttest-only control group design (Lohr, 2019). It is possible for this threat to arise when the pre-test and therapy interact.



Whether the selected design pose any additional ethical considerations

The parents of the participants will be notified of the assessment once they have been accepted into the program. In order to assess the program’s efficacy, they will be asked for their informed permission. The anonymity and confidentiality of the participants will be ensured by randomly providing each participant a unique identifying number. Prior to this, it will be easier to ensure secrecy and anonymity, as well as control over who attends treatment sessions (Fink, 2014).

The outcomes of this research will be generalized to a wide audience because of the non-probabilistic sample. Parents and children between the ages of 7 and 18 were included in the sample procedure (Lohr, 2019). Anxiety disorders were seen in children with and without autism spectrum disorder (ASD) (Fink, 2014).

Therapy participants will be assessed at the beginning and end of each session. In order to establish the program’s efficacy, the findings of the two evaluations will be compared.

The Adult Substance Abuse Treatment Program (ASATP)

Single-Subject Designs will be used to study client-level outcomes. Using a single-subject case study in this research will allow us to evaluate the link between factors in ASATP and see whether the findings in the control group will statistically reduce substance usage and enhance the functioning of those participating (Fink, 2014). Objective measurements will be replaced by self-reporting methods.

The pros and cons of the selected design

There are several benefits to these designs, including their ability to be easily modified and their cost-effectiveness. There is a lot of emphasis on external validity and generalizability while doing research (Lohr, 2019). Because of the limited sample size, it might be difficult to extrapolate findings from single-subject designs to a broader population.

Whether the selected design pose any additional ethical considerations

When using the single-subject design, the practitioner/researcher should take in mind the ethical concerns of having enough information to determine the efficacy of social storytelling. The explanation is connected to the withdrawal of the intervention, a component of the design that may hurt the participant since returning to the baseline period is risky.

To get the intended findings, the researcher utilized a method known as purposive sampling (Lohr, 2019).

The Children’s Anxiety Treatment Center (CATC)

Introduction

Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) is the main treatment modality used at the Children’s Anxiety Treatment Center (CATC) for children with clinically significant anxiety symptoms. Participation in the Children’s Anxiety Treatment Center is restricted to children aged 3-11.

Problem statement

When it comes to mental health difficulties, anxiety affects roughly 20% of youngsters at some point in their lives (Cooper, 2018). Unfortunately, anxiety that goes untreated may lead to despair, lost chances in work and relationships, higher property use, and a poorer standard of living for the patient in the long run (Cooper, 2018). There are a lot of things that children are afraid of and worry about. It’s possible that strong anxieties show up at various stages of development. It’s very uncommon for children to feel upset about being away from their parents, even insecure and well-taken care of environments.

The program

Anxiety problems in children may be treated with a variety of reliable therapies backed by scientific research. In terms of treatment, Children’s Anxiety Treatment Center mostly provides medication and cognitive-behavioural therapy. Anxious children may benefit greatly from cognitive-behavioural therapy. Treatment for severe anxiety with Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy has been shown to be helpful for more than two decades of study (Institute for Behavior Therapy, n.d.). The treatment also teaches children how to deal with their anxiety on their own, as opposed to just giving them pills to take.

The evaluation

The primary goal of the Children’s Anxiety Treatment Center service is to alleviate the kid participants’ worried symptoms via the use of family-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Clinically uncomfortable thoughts and emotions may lead to the formation of or maintenance of a mental condition if they are not controlled by patients, clients, or participants in cognitive behavioural therapy (Cooper, 2018). Anxiety symptoms in children have been shown to be reduced statistically and for a long time in past research (Cooper, 2018).

The Adult Substance Abuse Treatment Program (ASATP)

Introduction

This program employs motivational interviewing (MI) to treat people with clinically significant symptoms associated with substance use disorder (SUD), a disease defined as such in the most current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) (TN.gov., n.d.). Adult Substance Abuse Treatment Program participants are individuals ranging in age from 18 to 64.

Problem statement

A big concern in our culture today is drug misuse among adults. Drug abuse is wreaking havoc on the lives of a growing number of individuals. Approximately 8% of the population has used an illegal substance in the last month, according to national statistics, while 23% have admitted to binge drinking and 7% have admitted to severe drinking (TN.gov., n.d.). A recent round of Children and Family Service Reviews found that between 16 and 48 per cent of all child welfare cases have a drug use disorder as a component of the problem.

The program

An extensive range of services is offered to adults by Adult Substance Abuse Treatment Program. In order to help those with drug misuse and mental health difficulties, they provide a variety of services. Individual or group therapy is available at Adult Substance Abuse Treatment Program in outpatient, day treatment, and residential settings (TN.gov., n.d.). This program’s treatment plans are tailored to the specific health and drug usage histories of each client.

The evaluation

The ATP’s main goal is to minimize drug use among adults (18-64) via motivational interviewing counselling. A client-centred approach, motivational interviewing encourages clients, participants, and patients to consider changes in their behaviour that may enhance their feeling of wellbeing (Lin, Frank & Douaihy, 2019). the Adult Substance Abuse Treatment Program’s main goals are to decrease drug use and enhance functioning.
